How it works

Currency conversion is a simple multiplication or division. To convert from a base currency to a target currency: Target Amount = Base Amount × Rate.

To go in the reverse direction: Base Amount = Target Amount ÷ Rate. This calculator lets you enter any rate manually so you can use the most current mid-market rate from a source you trust.

Practical example

You are traveling to Europe with 150 USD and the exchange rate is 1 USD = 0.92 EUR. Converting: 150 × 0.92 = 138 EUR.

If you want to know how many dollars you need for 200 EUR, divide: 200 ÷ 0.92 = 217.39 USD. Always check the rate your bank actually offers, as it may include a spread above the mid-market rate.

Frequently asked questions

Does this fetch live rates?

No. Enter the rate manually for predictable comparisons.

Can I reverse direction?

Yes. Switch direction to divide by rate.

Why might my bank conversion differ?

Banks and card providers often add fees or spreads on top of the quoted exchange rate.

Where can I find current exchange rates?

Google Finance, XE.com, and your bank's website show current mid-market rates. The mid-market rate is the fairest rate; banks charge a spread on top of it.

Should I exchange money at the airport?

Airport exchange rates are usually the worst. Use a travel-friendly bank card or exchange money at a local bank or ATM at your destination for better rates.
