How it works

The unit price is the total price divided by the number of units: Unit Price = Total Price ÷ Quantity.

This lets you objectively compare products of different sizes or pack quantities. Supermarkets often display unit pricing on shelf labels, but for online shopping or bulk buying, calculating it yourself ensures you get the best deal.

Practical example

A 6-pack of soda costs 12.99, so each can costs 12.99 ÷ 6 = 2.17. A 12-pack of the same soda costs 19.99, making each can 19.99 ÷ 12 = 1.67.

The 12-pack is 23% cheaper per unit — worth buying if you will use them all before they expire.

Frequently asked questions

Can this compare pack sizes?

Yes. Enter each option to compare unit costs.

What if quantity is zero?

Quantity is clamped to at least 1 to avoid divide-by-zero errors.

Is lower unit price always better?

Not always. Compare quality, waste, and how quickly you will use the product.

Can I compare by weight instead of count?

Yes. Use grams, ounces, or any consistent unit as the quantity. For example, enter the weight in grams and the price to get cost per gram.

Does brand matter when comparing unit prices?

Unit price comparison works best when the products are similar in quality. A cheaper unit price means little if the quality is significantly lower.
