How it works
In text-to-Morse mode, each letter and digit is replaced with its Morse code sequence from the international standard table. Words are separated by a forward slash ( / ), and characters within a word are separated by a single space.
In Morse-to-text mode, the input is split by spaces (characters) and slashes (words), and each code group is looked up in the reverse table. Unrecognised sequences are replaced with a question mark.
Practical example
The text "SOS" in Morse code is: ... --- .... The three dots represent S, the three dashes represent O, and the three dots repeat for S.

Does Morse code support lowercase letters?
International Morse code has no distinction between uppercase and lowercase. All letters are encoded identically. This translator converts to uppercase when decoding.
What is the origin of SOS?
SOS (··· --- ···) was adopted as a distress signal in 1908 because it is distinctive, easy to send, and hard to confuse with other sequences. It does not stand for any specific phrase — the "Save Our Souls" backronym came later.
What speed should Morse code be sent at?
Morse code speed is measured in words per minute (WPM). Beginners start at 5–10 WPM; experienced operators can reach 25–35 WPM. Amateur radio licences often require a copy speed of 5 WPM.
